AFC Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez will be unavailable for selection until the final game of the season after his red card against Wolves was upheld following Cherries’ appeal.
In the 79th minute Kerkez saw a straight red for a heavy challenge on Matt Doherty.
Cherries managed to see out the 1-0 win with 10 men, but head coach Andoni Iraola felt that the dismissal was harsh and instantly signalled his intention to appeal the decision post-match.
The appeal was fast-tracked ahead of Cherries’ return to action this Sunday against Brighton (2pm), with Bournemouth finding out that the ban was upheld.
Hungarian international Kerkez will now miss Cherries’ clashes with Brighton, Arsenal, and Brentford, before returning for Bournemouth’s trip to Chelsea on the final day of the Premier League season.
Asked about the appeal, Iraola replied: “They answered straight away. They didn't overturn the decision.
“And he will have the three games normal suspension.
“So I think he will be able only to play against Chelsea last game.
“I had my hopes after watching the replays because I don't feel it's a red card.
“But normally, to overturn a decision – at least the experience in Spain – it has to be very, very, super clear.
“And it hasn't happened.”
