FOR me there’s something romantic about owning a house that used to be something else. Whether it’s a converted mill, an old pub or even a former lighthouse, it adds a certain character to the property – what I like to call the "if these walls could talk" factor.

ONE is a sprawling desert city with 51 golf courses, 70 resort hotels and a population not much bigger than Bournemouth. The other is the New Age haven two hours’ drive away that’s famous for its stunning red rocks and being voted America’s most beautiful place. But what Scottsdale and Sedona in Arizona have in common is that the stars – indeed plenty of their fellow Americans – want to live there.
