With a highly trained head chef, locally-sourced ingredients and a promise to use no MSG flavour enhancers, Thaiworks is not your average take away.

The eaterie, which has recently opened in Seamoor Road, Westbourne, prides itself on providing high quality food for collection and delivery, aiming to provide 'a better takeaway experience than anyone else'.

An extensive menu featuring stir fry dishes, noodles, rice, soups, salads, seafood, desserts and even a gluten-free range is cooked to order by specialist Thai chefs, with Thaiworks open for every day from 5pm to 11pm.

Head chef Ari learnt to cook with fresh ingredients at Busaba in London, before moving to ChaoPhraya Thai restaurant in Manchester, and the restaurant uses the highest quality, locally-sourced meat and vegetables as well as traditional Thai ingredients from a decided expert, bought from a Thai market in London twice a week.

The restaurant is so proud of its cooking standards and hygiene methods that the kitchen is kept completely open for customers to see.

It took a while to browse the range of dishes on offer, but we eventually settled on the Moo Ping - grilled, marinated pork on skewers (£5.95); 48-hour ribs (£6.45); Pad Thai chicken noodles (£7.50); special fried rice (£5.45); cashew nut stir fry (£6.95) and chilli and basil Gra Pao steak (£7.50).

Having pre-ordered our food, it arrived promptly via a very pleasant delivery driver and with the addition of some complementary Thai crackers.

Unsure of how much to order, we had gone with the recommended two starters, two mains and two sides, and were astounded at the amount of food packed into the two brown paper bags.

The Moo Ping pork skewers had a delicious, almost smokey flavour, while huge chunks of melt-in-the-mouth tender meat simply slid off the bones of the 48-hour ribs.

Feeling rather full already, we moved onto the next course.

The plastic boxes containing the Pad Thai and special fried rice were full to bursting, and still piping hot, despite the journey from Westbourne to Christchurch.

Crushed peanuts, bean sprouts, spring onion and tender chicken were mixed with the soft, flat noodles, while the tasty rice was accompanied by chicken, juicy king prawns, pork and peas.

The steak dish had a satisfying kick while the meat in the cashew stir fry was coated with a flavoursome batter and mild chilli.

Thaiworks prices are, admittedly, slightly higher than your average take-away but this is, essentially, restaurant quality food in the comfort of your own home.
