It wouldn't be November without...

Poppies - Remembrance Day November 11

At 11am on the 11th of the month, old soldiers and those who owe their freedom to them, will stage a two minute's silence to honour all those who died during the wars. Those who can will stand proud, those who can't will still jut out their chins defiantly at anyone who reckons they're going to mess with our boys'.

When you wear your poppy, not only do you show your appreciation and support, but the money goes to a fantastic cause, The Royal British Legion. royalbritishlegion.com

Fireworks - Bonfire night, November 5

Remember, remember the 5th of November, gunpowder, treason and plot.

It was 1605 when dastardly Guy Fawkes and his pesky cohorts were foiled trying to blow the Houses of Parliament to Kingdom come, but it's still remembered today. There's something about fireworks and bonfires that make the dark nights of autumn that little bit more bearable. Get together with friends, and get along to one of the many organised events across the county.

Poole Quay Fireworks are being held on 5th and Littledown Fireworks on the 8th.

Nature's own fireworks - Autumn leaves

'Tis the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, when changing leaves transform the trees into magical colourscapes.

It's the perfect time to pack your camera and explore the New Forest or visit Exbury's exquisite grounds where there's a riot of reds, russets, golds and everything in between. Hundreds of trees are turning to blazing autumn colours in the woodland walks, and there are trails and special events to make the most of it. With twenty miles of pathways, the steam railway or 45-minute buggy tour, it's up to you how you enjoy nature's beautiful hues.

A Touch Of Class - BSO Classical Hits, November 1

Bruch's ever-popular Violin Concerto remains a firm favourite with audiences and often holds the top spot in listener polls and classical charts. It exudes a richness and powerful intensity, a wonderfully lyrical expanse of music touched with flashes of virtuoso fireworks. Equally gorgeous is Vaughan Williams' haunting Five Variants of Dives & Lazarus with its exceptionally luscious string writing, harking back to a golden era.

The concert opens and finishes with two of Elgar's most accomplished works. His Enigma Variations epitomise the spirit of Britain more than any other piece and Nimrod is the pinnacle of Edwardian confidence.
